You need more than 'eating less' to slim.

You want to lose those extra pounds, but you’re sick to death of hearing the same old ways of achieving this. Right?

For years you were told that if only you’d eat less food, you would lose weight, look better, feel better, be healthier, etc. Unfortunately, most diets that were advertised or recommended were simply ‘not fit for purpose’ as the ‘in’ saying goes.

The thing is, if you restrict your calorie intake below a certain level, this can cause your body to go into 'starvation mode', which leads to storing fat instead of getting rid of it!

The real secret to ‘losing weight’ (see my post about ‘losing weight’ and ‘losing fat’ at ‘Stay slim after losing weight’) and keeping it off and being much healthier is a proper diet combined with proper exercise.

A proper diet, as I mention in ‘Stay slim after losing weight’, must contain enough protein. See that post for amounts of protein to aim for. Ideally, your eating should involve about five small meals spread out throughout the day. If you prepare your meals the day before and take them wherever you go during the day, then you will not be tempted to eat things that will not help you reach you fitness/weight loss goals.

As mentioned above, the best strategy for maintaining a healthy, trim body is to combine good nutrition and proper exercise. Starving yourself is not the answer. Moderation and a strength training exercise program will help to burn off unwanted body fat.

Muscle burns off unwanted fat. So the focus of your exercise program should be on training hard enough to increase your overall volume of toned muscle tissue. As I’ve said elsewhere on this blog, the more toned muscle you have, the more calories from the fat in your body you’ll use up. You will be burning off the fat not only when you exercise, but also when you’re sleeping or sitting watching the TV.

With this combination, your body will burn the calories you consume and turn them into energy instead of storing them as fat. You will find that once you begin a regular exercise program you need to eat more quality food to supply the healthy lean muscle with the energy it needs to keep you energized throughout the day.
